Der US-Senat hat am Samstag den Katholiken Brett Kavanaugh als neuen Höchstrichter für den Obersten Gerichtshof bestätigt und sich nicht von linken Protesten einschüchtern lassen. Trotz medialer Stimmmungsmache haben heute nur etwa 2000 Menschen gegen den neuen Höchstrichter demonstriert. Kavanaugh, der Berufungsrichter in Washington DC. war, gilt als konservativ und "pro-life"-freundlich. Bei der Wahl haben 50 Senatoren für ihn, 48 gegen ihn gestimmt. Damit hat US-Präsident Donald Trump sein Versprechen wahrgemacht und nach Neil Gorsuch einen weiteren konservativen Höchstrichter ernannt. Bei Nachwahlbefragungen hat sich gezeigt, dass die Wahl von konservativen Höchstrichtern eines der wichtigsten Motive für die Wahl von US-Präsident Trump war. Damit besteht in der Theorie eine konservative Mehrheit am Höchstgericht. Zusätzlich sind jetzt 6 der 9 US-Höchstrichter am Papier katholisch. Wie sich diese auswirken wird, ist derzeit aber noch unklar. Möglicherweise bekommt Trump sogar noch weitere Chancen für Ernennungen am Höchstgericht und könnte mit Amy Coney eine weitere Katholikin ernennen. Die liberale Höchstrichterin Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933) gilt als rücktrittsreif. Sie ist bereits 85 Jahre und soll spätestens 2020 zurücktreten. Auch der liberale Höchstrichter Stephen Breyer ist bereits 79 Jahre und gilt als Rücktrittskandidat. US-Lebensschützer haben sich kurz nach der Wahl zu Wort gemeldet und die Wahl begrüßt.

Congratulations to #SCOTUS Justice Brett Kavanaugh! He didnt deserve to be treated the way he was in this processno one deserves that. Im thankful that God overruled. Lets pray for him & his family in this critical appointment. Im confident he will do a great job.
